Blog Post # 7

I am far from a good poet, but I figured I'd take a shot at this.

I sat in the library today
And cracked open a book.
I was hoping to relax and get away,
But raised my head and took a look
At students engrossed in their computer screens
Facebooking friends right by their sides.
At students texting silly nothings
And procrastinating with the help of technology.
It baffled me how much the world has changed
Here I was with my book stuck in the old days.
There they were, the future of our world
Worrying about statuses, comments, and messages.
So I walked to a computer and put down my book
Decided to be normal and signed on Facebook.

  1. Good job! I like the poem!

But I really hate when I'm in the library and I REALLY need a computer, but they are all full. And then I see someone facebooking. I just want to tell them to get up and go do that at home because I really need their computer! Oh well, that's life I guess!

  2. Good poem! I liked how you took the situation of being in a library and seeing students use all sorts of technology (something we all see all the time). I also liked how you incorporated the part about facebooking someone they're sitting right next too!

  3. Ya I hate when they do that, too. I never really facebook at teh library, that's what my home computer is for. But I thought it made for a good topic in a poem haha!

  4. Nice poem. I wonder, for right or wrong, if we have any power to stop the movement toward technological advance. It seems fatalistic to simply join in with the Facebook crowd, but then again, why not?

  5. I don't think there is anything wrong with Facebook. I like how it has given people the power of expression. However, I think Facebook just adds to the many distractions on the internet. I bet research could prove that procrastination has increased since sites like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were formed. I know I always get on Facebook when I have writers block and end up blowing hours away that should have been spent on my papers.
